Corallorhiza maculata var. occidentalis

Corallorhiza maculata, the Spotted Coralroot, has three varieties in our area, variety maculata, which is found all across North America, and which has a narrow, parallel-sided lip, variety occidentalis, the Western Spotted Coralroot, which has a broad, almost round lip and is found only in the far west, and var. ozettensis, the Ozette Coralroot, which is almost entirely without spotting.  Where they grow together, the Western Spotted Coralroot blooms earliest, followed by the ordinary variety and then the Ozette Coralroot.
